A new deal starts from nothing. Someone has to find the right prospect, earn their trust, and get them through a full sales process before you see a dollar. An account you've already won already has a relationship, revenue already coming in, and proof you can deliver.
Growing that account is almost always faster and cheaper than winning a new one, and that revenue is there whether anyone is paying attention to it or not.
